Local Update

KAIRAT.jpg
This was my friend, Captain Kairat Kudabayev. I met him because I worked with him in Iraq for the Multi National Division. He died last month while doing his job, removing explosives from a weapons cache in central Iraq.

He was a really cool person, and he loved talking about his home country, Kazakhstan. He also had a great sense of humor, something I think we all need. I don't want to dedicate some cheesy site in his memory. I just want you to know about him. I was going to visit him in Kazakhstan.

Now on to local updates...

So much has happened, it's unbelievable. Kuwait has been crazy lately. The Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense found a terrorist cell linked to Al-Qaeda, and began conducting raids to hunt down and remove these threats.

As a result, there have been several shootouts and casualties throughout Kuwait, though things are now calming down.

Now my personal news...

I am counting the days until I get out of here for my vacation. I'll be going to Germany to visit a friend and tour my company's German offices. After that, I'll be driving down to Austria and Italy to do some snowboarding.

When I get back, I am [supposed] to be headed into Afghanistan. I'll only be there a couple weeks. Snow storms have been a major problem with that region, and it looks pretty cold there right now, but I'm looking forward to a new adventure.

I'll update for real when I have some photos from my vacation. Auf Wedersehen.

Leaving Kuwait

And here's a sunset photo of the Marina at the mall in Salmiyah.

So I'm sitting in Kuwait City International Airport, waiting for my flight to Germany, and I figured I should get back into updating my site. Here's more info on my vacation.

First I'm flying into Frankfurt, then I'm driving down to Kaiserslautern to hang out for a few days. After that I'll be going south to Munich to meet a friend and check out the town.

A few days later, we'll be driving down to Innsbruck, Austria, for some much-needed snowboarding. Man, I can't wait!

And after that, I'm driving down to Italy to snowboard in the Dolomites!

Needless to say, I'm going to love this trip. Too bad it's just for two weeks, and then it's back to work.

I thought this was cool. To finish another posting from my odd experiences out here, this is a hedgehog I found after driving home from work, and they do roll down hills very easily!

I'll see you in a few weeks...
